Sallah: Obasa sues for peaceful co-existence among Nigerians

Speaker, Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa has urged Muslims and other worshipers to step up their sacrificial efforts in ensuring that real change in the running of the government is established in Nigeria. Obasa made the statements as he joined other leaders including Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Oba Rilwan Akiolu of Lagos, Chief Femi Okunnu, Baba Adinni of Lagos, Sheik Abdullahi Abu and Lagos Commissioner Police, Fatai Owoseni to observe the Eid-El Kabir prayer at Dodan Barracks, Lagos. The Speaker used the occasion to thank the people for their support during the last electioneering campaign, and assured them that the leaders would do their best for the people. In his Sallah message, he enjoined Muslims and other Nigerians to imbibe the spirit of the Eid-il-Adha by praying and sacrificing personal resources in order to entrench solid democratic governance in the country. He appealed to Nigerians to live together in peace and let Islam play vital roles in their daily activities, noting that if the people adhere to the teachings of the religions, society would be a better place to live in. According to him, “We, Muslims and other worshipers must be prayerful and sacrifice more to salvage this nation from the position it was before President Mohammadu Buhari took over on May 29, 2015, to bring about a civil and prosperous nation, our conducts must be in line with the teachings of our religions. “I appeal to our brothers and sisters in Islam and other Nigerians to be supportive of this new democratic process so that we achieve the real change we want in Nigeria’’ Obasa said. The Speaker, who was optimistic of the survival of democracy in the country, however cautioned that all hands must be on deck, saying that government at all levels and the people must pay their roles very well. According to him, Nigerian people have suffered enough and should not be subjected to another round of bad governance. While rejoicing with Muslims around the world for witnessing another Sallah celebration, the Speaker, however, admonished them to be moderate in their celebration and as well urged wealthy Muslims to extend their philanthropic gestures to the people, especially the less privileged in the society. ‘’I would want especially the wealthy ones among us to assist others who are poor – in terms of giving them food and clothing. It is when those who are in need are catered for that we will live to empty our wealth. This is what we need to do to make the people happy and our society to be better,’’ he said.
