Igbo presidential bid

Dr Chigozie, Nnabuhie of the Department of Linguistics, African and Asian Studies, University of Lagos has called on the Igbos to seek the highest good inherent in education. Nnabuhie made the call at the Inaugural IgboLIfe Leadership Lecture/Award entitled, “Igbo Leadership Challenge-The Role of Igbo Socio-cultural Organisations” on Saturday in Lagos. According to the don, Igbos should endeavour to combine wealth acquisition with the pursuit of education for the development of the total man. He noted that leaders the world over were known to be men and women of letters. “Education must be deployed in the liberation of the Igbos. Reading and counting of money were essential for the total liberation of the Igbos. “Those that can read and write live to lead,’’ Nnabuhie, said. The don expressed the belief in the ability of the Igbos to imbibe the practice of politics in all its manifestations. He called on all Igbos to wake up to the political reality of the present time and contribute their quota to the development of the entire country. He bemoaned the emergence of splinter Igbo groups that parade themselves as the voice of the Igbos, outside the Ohaneze Ndigbo. The guest speaker said that the Igbos were relentless in what they believed in, in spite of efforts made at discouraging them. Nnabuhie said that the Igbos were known to be very industrious and were blessed with a great sense of brotherhood. “The Igbo world is composed intrinsically of Kingship and brotherhood. The Igbos are driven with the passion to excel in all endeavors. In his remarks the Chairman of the occasion, Chief Goddy Uwazurike, President General Aka Ikenga, emphasised the need for the Igbos to speak with one voice. “We must speak out against the perceived marginalization of the Igbos in national politics,’’ Uwazurike said. Contributing, the Publisher of IgboLife Magazine, Mr Collins Onyeulo, said that the need to float the magazine was borne out of the passion to correct the negative perceptions of the Igbos. Collins noted that 45 years after the civil war, the Igbos had moved on, occupying various prestigious positions in all spheres of life. The News Agency of Nigeria reports that 11 persons received the IgboLife Magazine Award of excellence in their different fields. Some of the recipients are Dr Chukuemeka Ezeife, Chief Goddy Uwazurike, Dr. Joseph Odumodu, May and Baker Nig. Plc, Chief Victor Osuagwu and Dr Leo Stan-Eke. Others included Mr Willy Nzewi, Chief Anthony Idigbe, Chief Basil Osuagwu, Chief Gary Enwo-Igariwey and Chief Felix Amadi.
