Polytechnic Graduates and ICT expert begs Buhari to end HND,BSC dichotomy

President Muhammadu Buhari has been urged to bridge the dicohtomy between Polytechnic and University graduates in the country. The chairman of the Nigeria Computer Society and a senior lecturer in the department of Computer Science,Federal University of Agriculture Abeokuta, Dr. Bukola Onashoga stated this at the 7th edition of the annual Information and Technology Development Programme held at the Federal Polytechnic Ilaro,in Yewa South area of Ogun state. She said “ the government should bridge the gap between the industry and the Academia, because the best thing is that the students should be taken round the shores of what is happening in the professional world and the IT professionals too should come around the universities to also put the students through what is happening in their own end. “Those who are succeeding in the IT world today succeeded as a result of their pratical presentations of what they have learnt .If you are either a BSC or HND holder and you are unable to display in practical what you have learnt in school, then it is nothing , forget about the qualification either BSC or HND on this field is not about qualification, it is all about what you can do practically. ”So I want to enjoined the government to pass a law whereby professionals should be part of those that will be teaching in schools”. Meanwhile, the rector of Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro, Arch. Olusegun Aluko who was represented by his deputy, Dr. Adewale Ajayi said the school is passionate about technological advancement because it drives the future. He said,”we have passion for IT because we know that is what is driving the future and this profession is highly lucrative, dynamic and competitive and we must grow with its trends. ”The government should do a special intervention on IT for institutions because it will gallop us forward and also the government should do an audit of the ICT in higher institutions and consider what will work in our environment .
