A’Ibom to dissolve LGs’ caretaker c’ttees

The nine-member Local Government Caretaker Committee in Akwa Ibom State inaugurated in July 2015, will be dissolved soon as the one year tenure expires next month.

The state governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel announced this, weekend, during the monthly prayer meeting held at Latter House Chapel, Governors Lodge, Uyo. Emmanuel explained the dissolution of the caretaker committee after one year was in line with the constitutional provision regulating local government administration in the state.

He said that another nine-member caretaker committee will be appointed to continue to oversee activities of local government administration, pending when the state will conduct elections for the third tier of government. According to Governor Emmanuel, “Those that will be appointed into the new Caretaker Committee will comprise men of requisite pedigree and proven integrity.”

He dispelled the rumours over a purported reshuffle of his cabinet and urged those serving in that capacity to disregard such speculations and focus on their duties with renewed zeal and diligence. Emmanuel who reassured workers in the state of his commitment towards their welfare despite the reduction in the revenue allocation to the state, also restated that his administration will employ expertise to ensure the execution of all projects it had flagged off for the benefit of the people.
