The Federal Government is to forge a global partnership with ONE Campaign group that would focus on international response to the humanitarian crisis arising from the insurgency in the North-Eastern region of the country.
Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo made this known when he received members of the ONE campaign led by the international Rock Star, Paul David Hewson, popularly known as Bono at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. According to the Vice President, international collaboration was necessary for tackling the crisis in the North-East with about two million displaced people including children. Speaking with newsmen after the meeting, Bono said there was urgent need to raise funds and international awareness about the crisis in the north-east. As part of his work with ONE, Bono has lobbied U.S. Presidents and Congressional Leaders, along with the Heads of many other G8 nations. Acknowledging the significant role ONE campaign group played in assisting Nigeria with international debt relief in the past, the Chairman of Dangote Group and Board Member of the ONE Campaign Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote said the group was working towards resettling the IDPs. A renowned Nigerian Musician, Aituaje Iruobe popularly known as Waje shed light on her role as a ONE Ambassador. In 2004, Bono co-founded ONE: an advocacy and campaigning organization dedicated to fighting extreme poverty and preventable disease with a focus on Africa.
