Flood has cut off over 30 communities from the rest of the world in Ekye Development Area of Nasarawa State after torrential downpour that lasted several days last week.
floodThe surging flood waters swept off the Ohina bridge between Doma and Yelwa communities which is the only link between Doma and Ekye Development Area halting vehicular activities to and from the area. Residents who spoke to LEADERSHIP called on the state and local governments to, as a matter of urgency, reconstruct the bridge to save them from the horrible experiences they are passing through. According to the report, Chairman of Ekye Development Area traditional council, the Utushoho of Agbashi, HRH Moses Alade, said the collapse of the bridge has paralysed economic activity in the area thereby bringing untold hardship to the rural populace who find it hard to meet their daily needs. He appealed to Governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura to use the instruments of his office to see that their plight is alleviated, noting that within just four days the bridge has collapsed while the affected communities had to endure gruelling challenges.
