Tension heightened in Rivers state, Thursday ahead of Saturday’s rerun elections as news filtered in that a Major and two soldiers were killed along the waterways in Abonnema, Akuku Toru local government area by suspected political thugs.
Citynewsng gathered that the suspected thugs opened fire on the soldiers, killing two of them while about five others reportedly sustained injuries. When contacted, the Brigade Commander 2 Brigade, Brigadier General Stephenson Olabanji confirmed that soldiers were attacked in the area but quickly added that information on casualties was still awaited. “Our soldiers were attacked today. Information on casualties yet to be confirmed ” He said the Brigade spokesman, Captain Lazarus Eli will issue a statement soon on the development.
