KADUNA STATE GOVT. TO UPGRADE SPORTS FACILITIES

The Kaduna State Government said it would upgrade sports facilities to attract events and competitions in the state. The Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Mr Daniel Danauta, gave the assurance in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Kaduna. Danauta said that the plan would attract more athletes and sports men and women nationwide and prepare them for national and international competitions. He added that when upgraded, the facilities would serve as a grooming ground for both local and national athletes who would need modern facilities to train for competitions. According to him, upgrading them will also boost Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) for the government. “ I have visited most of the sporting facilities in the ministry and found out that most of them are yearning for attention and improvement for proper use. “I will like to assure the youth that as a way of engaging and promoting sports in the state, I will ensure that all facilities are upgraded for quality training for future competitions.“ The commissioner further assured that those who left the state because of lack of state-of-the-art training facilities, would soon return after the facilities were upgraded. NAN reported that most sports facilities at the Murtala Muhammed Square and the Kaduna Township Stadium were last upgraded during the 2009 National Sports Festival in the state.
